Since the Summer Savings Marathon promotion runs three weeks (until July 29), there plenty of time to get your coupons in order and work out your scenarios. As you do so, please share them here! Newbies can read your scenarios, see what coupons you’ve used, and learn how to “work” a Buy #, Get $ promo like this one. Depending on your coupons, here are some of the scenarios you might do:
Scenario #1:
2 6-pk bottles Diet Coke 3.00 (with SuperCoupon from 7/9)
4 Kelloggs Cereal 6.00 (with SuperCoupon from 7/9)
4 Barilla Plus Pasta 5.96 (use two $1/2 coupons from the 6/15 paper? not sure of the date)
4 Hansens soda 8.00 (use two BOGO coupons for 4.00 off)
2 Chi-Chi’s Salsa 4.09 (use $1/2 coupon from 6/29 paper)
4 Ragu Spaghetti Sauce 7.00 (use two $1/2 coupons from 5/18 paper)
2 Chex Mix 3.98 (two 1.00 coupons from here)
2 Cheez-it Crackers 5.00 (use $1/2 coupon from 6/1 paper)
1 JollyTime Popcorn 1.99 (1.00 off coupon here)
Pay $28.02 and get $20 Catalina back, so you’ve spent $8.02 for all of that.
Scenario #2 (no coupons):
Let’s say you have no coupons, and you don’t want to print internet coupons. Let’s say you have three runny-nosed children, and your own allergy/sinus problems. Is this TMI? Check this out:
25 Kleenex Tissues 37.50
Use the $20 Cat from before, pay $12.50 (so each box was .70), and earn another Cat at the end of the transaction. Ah-choo! If you can find this brochure, you’ll have coupons to make this even better.
Scenario #3 (all coupons from last two newspaper inserts or printable):
2 6-pk bottles Diet Coke 3.00 (use SuperCoupon from 7/9)
4 Kelloggs Cereal 6.00 (use SuperCoupon from 7/9)
4 Chi-Chi’s Salsa 8.19 (use two $1/2 coupons from 6/29 paper)
2 Betty Crocker Frosting 3.00 (look for .50 off peelie coupons on the cake mixes in that aisle)
2 Tava soft drinks 3.99 (use two $1.50/1 coupons from here or here–scroll down to Beverages)
2 Sierra Mist 20oz. bottles 2.98 (use BOGO coupon from here for 1.49 off)
2 Colgate Toothpaste 5.00 (use two 1.50 off coupons from here)
1 Chinet White Plates 15ct 2.50 (use .75 off coupon from 6/29 paper)
2 Stayfree Maxi Pads 8.38 (use BOGO coupon from 6/29 paper for 4.19 off)
4 Oral-B Stages Toothbrushes 10.00 (these are the kids’ toothbrushes I like; use two of the $1/2 from the P&G insert 7/6)
Total is $34.61 after coupons; use the $20 Cat from last time, pay $14.61 and earn another $20 Cat. See how fun this is?
During previous Safeway promos, it was hard to find workable scenarios and coupon matchups without reading through pages and pages of the Slickdeals thread. Here’s a Mr. Linky to make it easy. If you have a blog, post your deal and share it here. Please include the details on your coupons so that we can all learn where to get the great deals. If you don’t have a blog, please share in the Comments section. I’ve focused on the Buy 25 items, Get $20 deal, but you may want to start with the lower numbers. Thanks for your participation!

thank you Gina! the mr linky is very helpful and i’ll be figuring out what i’m going to do!
Made my first trip and am excited for my next. Those olympic coupons booklets are great. Another $.50 off of Kleenex making them $1 before the promo so if you could find 25 booklets and 25 boxes in stock the price would be $25 and then you would receive your $20 coupon, YEAH!! Another great deal was the Sprite. They are buy 3 get 3 free and with the buy one get one free coupon again in the olympic booklet I got 6 two liters for FREE!! Loving these sales!! Thanks for your information, it really helped out!!
Where do you get olympic coupon books from? The kleenex coupon would be a great thing as we all have colds right now.
Thanks,
Wendy
Great job, Jeanne!
Wendy–the Olympic books are supposed to be in store (that’s what it says in the ad). Look for a large stand-up display.
How have I not found your blog before? I was totally overwhelmed with the Safeway (or Tom Thumb in my area) deals and now am totally pumped about trying some of your scenarios! Thanks for sharing.
Can you explain how the doubling of coupons works at the register? Thanks!
I totally forgot about the olympic coupon book. Rats! I’ll have to remember to pick one up my next trip. I filled out the mr. linky thing – I hope I did it right!
Re: Doubling coupons–my Safeway in this area doubles coupons up to .50, so as long as a coupon is .25 off or .40 off, it will automatically double at the register.
When I lived in Southern California, they doubled coupons up to 1.00! It was great!
How does everyone get so many copies of the coupons (chex, jolly time, etc.)? I am only able to print one or two and then it says I have reached my max.
Stacy–you can print two per computer, so if you have a second computer in the house, get 2 more!
After my trip yesterday I picked up the olympic booklet to get the kleenex coupons. The coupon says ‘limit one per purchase’ so how is everyone getting more than one box at a time??
Duckygirl, that just means one coupon per box, not per transaction. Just get a lot of the coupons from the booklet and they should let you use them.
Ok… I’m completely new to all of this, but interested in trying it!
I have twins and a 2 yr old – so a bit like you, just a year behind?
Can you tell me – do you know how I would figure out if I get the same deals at my Alaska Safeway, or if they’re different? Also, where are you getting all these coupons? Do you have to get the newspaper, or are the weekly coupons available in store? I get an insert in the mail every week but I just checked it and it doesn’t have any coupons, just a list of their sale items? So mine says good July 16 – 22, and on the front it says ground beef 80% lean 1.99/lb, 2 lbs of large peaches for $3. Is that the same as what anyone else’s says?
Ok. Sorry for all the questions.
Hi Kara–
Questions are good! If you have more, feel free to email me.
You should have similar deals at your Safeway–I say “similar” because sometimes the front page deals differ depending on the part of the country. I know that in the winter, Texas and California still have fruit sales on the front page but we don’t here on the East Coast. One way to see that is to go to Safeway’s website and input a different zip code to see the ad (mine is 20001). But you should focus on your own weekly ad. That being said–the promos (like this Buy X, Get Y right now) are national and should be in your ad.
As for coupons, read here:
http://sahmmoney.blogspot.com/2008/01/faq-where-do-you-get-your-coupons.html
for more info on all my sources. I do get a lot of coupons out of the newspaper. Some of the weekly ads have Safeway coupons on the front page, but not every week. Once in a while Safeway has a Sunday ad in the Sunday paper and that usually has coupons too. Those are STORE coupons and can be combined with manufacturers coupons (from the newspaper inserts, internet, etc.).
ps–your kids are adorable!
I have had nothing but problems, I just can’t get this to work out. Last night, I purchased 29 items that were on Marathon and nothing. The Supervisor on duty claims that I did not buy the right stuff. I took 2 hours to make sure I was right. This morning, I have spent on the phone with Vons and Catalina. We’l see what happens
Gina,
What Safeway do you shop at. Mine has informed me they do not take internet coupons anymore.
I was really upset. I could have saved like $10.
I thought that I could only print two coupons per printer. I’m so glad to know it’s two coupons per computer. We have three computers at home. Wonderful!
