WFMW: Swagbucks

Have you heard of Swagbucks yet? It’s a toolbar you install and use for searching, and you earn “swagbucks” that you can cash in for gifts. Way back in the summer, I read CFO’s review of Swagbucks, but I never gave it a shot. Fast forward to December, and I decided to give it a try. Just like she said, within a month I had enough Swagbucks to get a $5 credit at Amazon, and you know that didn’t last long around here.

Just like with Caregivers Marketplace, I like to try things out before I recommend them to you, dear readers. But now that I’ve tried it for two months, I can see the pros and cons:

PRO) I use the toolbar whenever I would normally type in a web address that I know by heart. For example, if I want to go to Target.com, instead of typing it into the regular address bar, I type it into the Swagbucks toolbar, which pulls it up for me. Yes, it’s a teeny extra step, but I’m willing to do it for the free credit at Amazon.

CON) It seems like the search results are not as thorough as they are with Google. Often, I search Swagbucks first and if I can’t find what I’m looking for, I switch to Google. Of course, I put the Google address in the Swagbucks toolbar as I mentioned above.

PRO & CON) You can earn faster by having others sign up for Swagbucks using your link, so if you’re thinking about trying it, please use my link below:

Search & Win

That’s a PRO for me, and for you if you have a blog, a large network of family or friends, or another way to promote it. It may be a CON if you’re a regular computer user, but you can still earn and win without it–I did it in the month of December by myself.

PRO) If you sign up for the email newsletter, you’ll get additional codes that you can enter for free Swagbucks. That’s one of the ways I got up to 45 so quickly, which is what you need for the $5 Amazon credit. There are plenty of other gift cards available, but the points-per-dollar trade for Amazon is the best ratio, and since I shop at Amazon, it’s the best bet for me.

Are you already a member of Swagbucks? What have you earned?

Hmm, it sounds interesting. I am curious to see if others have had god luck as well. Thanks for the tip

I really like SwagBucks – it definitely doesn’t give the same search results as Google, but it doesn’t take much time to use and you can easily rack up the “Bucks”.

I have received two $5 Amazon gift cards and a $5 starbucks gift card and I started in November. I search for all my freebie/coupon websites with it and use another search engine for everything else. I usually get $2-3 dollars a day.

I just started using Swagbucks about a month ago. I am already up to 48 bucks! It is so easy.

I would have to agree with you that Google certainly gives more results.

Sounds great! I will look into this!

I have no one signed up under me, but I have earned two $5 gift cards this month.

It's really helpful if you use Firefox to program your URL bar search to hit SwagBucks instead of google or whatever your ISP stuffs in there (like type a word, hit enter and get Verizon search results? You can make that SB).

This sounds great! I also use a program called mypoints which sends e-mail deals everyday and even if you don't purchase the deal you get 5 points for clicking on it! I have been doing it for years and always use my points to redeem gift cards to home depot!
