Safeway this week 4/29

NOTE: Safeway deals are also applicable to their partner stores: Dominicks, Genuardis, Vons, Pavilions, Tom Thumb, Randalls, and Carrs.

One more note–I base my write-up on the ad I receive in the Mid-Atlantic. Your prices and coupons may differ in your region of the country.

This is the last week of the Living Well, Feeling Great promo. Thank you to everyone who has joined in on the Mr. Linky (we’re up to 66 entries!) with their photos and results. There is some great shopping and stockpiling going on out there! You can read about how the promo works and try it for yourself from now to May 5th. Shellie has a great newbie scenario here that uses internet-printable coupons.

Deer Park Water is hard to find! Apparently a lot of you are out there getting free or almost-free water. If you can find it, buy two, and you’ll get a $2.00 Catalina back as well as it counting towards your $30 threshold. You pay .31 for a 6-pack after the Cats.

Quaker Quakes Rice Snacks are on sale for $1.00, and there was a coupon for $1.00 off in the 3/29 paper. These are better than FREE, since you pay nothing and they go towards the $30 LWFG threshold.

Yoplait Yogurt is .60 each when you buy 10, and these are part of the LWFG promo. There was a coupon for .40 off 6 cups in the 4/20 paper, which will double at some stores, making these even cheaper. Plus, there’s a Catalina promo running where you get $2.00 OYNO when you buy 20 of the Light variety. If you have room to stock up, buy 20 for $12 towards your $30 threshold, and get them cheap with the coupons and Cats. If you have three coupons that double, that’s only .29/cup. **Both the master list and Safeway.com show the Yoplait as participating in the promo. I have received the $10 Cat from including them in my $30 threshold.

Hershey Special Dark 4.25oz Bars are $1.99 and part of the LWFG promo, and there was a coupon for $1.00 off in the 4/19 paper. Plus, there’s store promo running where you get $2.00 off instantly at the register when you buy six. These are only .31 when bought for the promo, then FREE with six coupons and the Cat.

Ocean Spray Cranergy is $3.49, and there was $1.00 off coupon in the 3/29 paper. When bought as part of the LWFG promo, it costs $1.30/bottle.

Softsoap SPA Radiant Body Wash is $3.50 and you can print a $1.00 off coupon. When bought for the LWFG promo, you only pay $1.30.

Most prices continue to stay the same from the past two weeks. If something was a participating product (per your weekly ad or white tag in-store), it still is even if the price has changed to reflect a sale. If you feel that your purchase qualified and the Cat didn’t print, give Catalina Marketing a call at 888-8COUPONS. They’ll go over your receipt with you and can mail you the $10 coupon.

Buy any 2 Coke 12-packs and get Two 12-packs FREE plus a Dasani 24-pack FREE. This runs to May 5th and will come off automatically on your receipt. The 12-packs are $5.99/each, so you’ll pay $11.98 for four 12-packs of soda and a 24-pack of water. **Update: I double-checked the master list, and it looks like the 8pks of cans are participating in the LWFG promo, not these 12pks.

Some other, non-promo deals this week:

Breyers Ice Cream is BOGO at $6.49. Use the $1.00/2 coupon from the 4/5 paper to get them for $2.75/carton.

Kashi Cereals are $3.00/box, and you can print a coupon for $1.50 off two.

Kellogg’s Raisin Bran is $1.99. Use the $1.00 off coupon from the 4/5 paper to get it for .99.

Life Cereal is also $1.99. You can print a $1.00 off coupon (scroll down) to get it for .99.

Safeway Frozen Boneless Skinless Chicken Breast is $1.69/lb in the 4-lb bag.

Tostitos Chips are $1.99, and there was a coupon in the 4/26 paper for $1.00 off both the chips and dip. The dips are $3.00.

Tyson Frozen Chicken (Tenders, Nuggets, etc.) are BOGO at $7.99. There was a $1.00 off coupon in the 3/8 paper. Use two, and you’ll pay just $2.99/bag.

Pillsbury is running a Catalina promo right now: Buy three refrigerated bread products and get a Cat for $3.00 off your next purchase. Some items are tagged (the large size Crescent Rolls) while others also work (the smaller 4-count package). Buy three of the small Crescent Rolls at $1.50 each, use whatever coupons you have, and get the $3.00 Cat back. Should be free or close to it! This works in multiples, so you can purchase 6 or 9 at once and get several Cats back. Slickdeals is reporting that the Grands Biscuits do not work.

SuperCoupons good through Tuesday, May 5th. Each is limit 1 and requires a minimum $20 purchase (including these items). These may be the worst SuperCoupons EVER!:

  • Downy or Bounce Fabric Softener $8.99
  • Safeway Bath Tissue or Paper Towels $4.99
  • Ziploc Value Pack Storage Bags $2.99
  • Scrubbing Bubbles Aerosol $1.79

There are new printable coupons up at Safeway.com. Look for $1.00 off a 2-lb pack of Strawberries and $5 off any $25 Floral Purchase, among others.

Remember you can load e-coupons for P&G products onto your Safeway Club Card.

The pharmacy is offering a coupon for 10% off your next grocery purchase when you fill an new or transferred prescription for allergy medications (Allegra, Clarinex, Flonase, Singulair, etc.). This runs through May 31.

The super coupons are HORRIBLE! ITA with you! I guess they have to make up for all of the other good deals some how!

  2. Ryan says:

    Hey Gina–

I was looking at the Safeway ad this week and the B2G2 Coke 12 packs caught my attention – especially the 24 pack of Dasani that you get. This is part of the LW promo and is ~$6.49. Do you think that would count towards the $30 total we need, or not? Thanks!

    –Ryan

  3. Telminha says:

I checked the LW promo list and there are several coca cola products included like the 8-12 FZ COCA COLA. I wonder if buying the 2 Coke get 2 free plus water would work toward the $30…

  4. mich says:

    Gina (or anyone else),

Can I use my $10 Living Well Catalina AND use 6 of my $2 catalinas all in one Safeway transaction?

I was told by 1 Safeway checkout rep that they don’t like me redeeming my Catalinas all in one transaction, that they should be used for seperate orders?

Any clue as to how many we have a right to use?

    Michelle

  5. Gina says:

Ryan & Telminha–good catch. The 12-pks do count towards the promo (according to Safeway.com). I added that info to the post.

Michelle-yes, technically, you should be able to. I would ask the manager instead of the cashier.

  6. Marie says:

What is a “supercoupon?” I didn’t see any in the store or online and when I asked they looked at me like I was nuts.

  7. Gina says:

Marie–the SuperCoupons are printed in the weekly ad (this week, they’re on the next to last page instead of the front). They are “store” coupons, meaning you can combine them with any manu coupons you have.

  8. Leah says:

Just wanted to ask about the links to other peoples deals…looks like no new posts can be entered. I wanted to put mine on. Maybe you could add another one. I love seeing what other people are doing

  9. BOGOfetcher.com says:

  10. Welch Family says:

The Yoplait is NOT part of the LW at my SW. It completely ruined my transaction and I didn’t get the CAT. SAD!!! I was soooo frustrated. I didn’t know why until I actually went back through all my items aisle by aisle and realized that there wasn’t a white tag on the Yoplait. I had already been there for so long, I just took the loss and realize this is all a learned experience. So, be sure to double check on the white tags on the items in the store.

  11. Gina says:

Welch Family–Yoplait is a participating product; it has nothing to do with the tags. My store was tagged the first week, and since then they removed the white tags to replace them with red sales tags. It is on the master list AND marked online.

If you purchased $30 worth of products, call Catalina at 888-8COUPONS and they’ll credit you the coupon.

  12. Welch Family says:

Gina-Thanks a lot for the tip!!! I will definitely call Cat myself and get the $10. I was just looking at the LW flier and it does say Yoplait. It was just so frustrating because the store employees (including mgr) were not helpful at all and basically told me I did it all wrong and I would have to show them the white tags. WTH! But, I will definitely call Catalina. Thanks so much!!!!

  13. Ryan says:

    Hey Gina–

I also would just like to mention to the group an easy way to identify products that are eligible for the LW promo. If you are a registered user on safeway.com, you can actually search for the items you are going to buy and they are marked with a little pink symbol and have “Special online offer” next to the picture. Thought that might help some.

    –Ryan

  14. Ryan says:

    Edit –
    1. Make sure you go to “Grocery Delivery” on the Safeway website to search products and
    2. I think the B2G2 Coke products this week are only 12 packs. The coke predicts eligible for LW promo are not part of the same promotion. I don’t think you can double dip on those.

    –Ryan

  15. Lynn in MD says:

Gina, do you have more details (like start and end dates) on the Yoplait Cat deal? I read about that deal on someone’s linky page… so I tried it on the 28th. I bought 20 cups… but no Cat printed for it (I got the $10 LW Cat, the $2 water Cat, and the $1/2 water MQ). I suppose I need to call Catalina Marketing again… but it’s getting annoying since I feel like I’m constantly calling them these days (betw Safeway and Wags)!!

  16. Kelly says:

Do the Catalina promos work for all the stores (ie: Hershey’s Chocolate) and do you know how to check to see if my store does? (other than calling the store itself, tried they weren’t able to answer my question)
    TY!

  17. Jen says:

As far as I know, the 12 pack Coke cans were NOT part of LW last week at my (hideous) Safeway, and killed my LW too.

However, you and others have said that the 12 packs are eligible. Since the LW stuff isn’t flagged on the receipt, how can you know what you’re getting credit for and not? And if it turns out that the 12 pack IS part of LW, what could I do if something like this happens again?

I think I am doing Giant this week anyway because of the $1 doublers, but I would love any LW advice you’ve got.

  18. Gina says:

Thanks for the good tip, Ryan!

I updated the post to reflect that the 12pk Coke cans are NOT on the list. It’s the 8pk cans that are eligible. Sorry!

Lynn and Kelly–it is very tough to get Catalina info! You can try calling and asking about the Yoplait deal, but sometimes they need the code off the Cat coupon just to look it up. Sometimes the Cat promos are across-store, like the Dole Mandarin Oranges Cat has been at Giant, Safeway and Shoppers for months, but most of the time they are NOT. Usually they are store-specific. I find out about the Safeway Cats through the Slickdeals forum and from shopping at Safeway (seeing shelf stickers or getting a printout).

  19. Ryan says:

    Hey Gina–

So just for clarification on my end…Do you think the 24 pack Dasani water ($6.49 and LW eligible) that comes free with the B2G2 Coke promo will count towards the $30 minimum? If I want to do the B2G2 promo, do I need to add$23.51 of LW products to get the cat, or $30 additional of LW products? Thanks, Gina!

    –Ryan

  20. Gina says:

Ryan–I don’t think the Dasani will count because typically anything that’s BOGO on Safeway’s end doesn’t count. That’s the experience people are reporting at Slickdeals.

I just got back from buying 20 Yoplaits as part of a $30 order. I did not get the $2 Cat, but I got the $10 Cat. ???

  21. Allison says:

It doesn’t look like anyone has mentioned this yet (sorry if it’s come up!), but there is a B1G1 coupon on Mycokerewards.com if you are a part of that. You have to redeem points to get it, but if you’ve been collecting them and don’t know what to do with them, this would be an awesome time to use this. I haven’t checked the site today, but these coupons were redeemable a week ago.

  22. Lynn in MD says:

I wish I would have re-read this post before I went shopping today. I saw that others had purchased the Pillsbury crescent rolls and got the LW cat… so I assumed they were part of the deal. So when it came time to pay at the register… I got the cats for the Pillsbury and water… but no $10 LW Cat! :(

So here's the funny part about my disappointment… I only paid $6.53 + a $2 water cat… and got back $4 in water cats & a $3 Pillsbury Cat… so net cost was $1.53! I just wanted to make this one a nice money maker!!

BTW, are people still getting the $1/2 water coupon to print? I got the water cats today… but no coupon…

Also, I just check MCR and no more BOGO MQ on the Coke… just a $1 MQ available for 35pts.
