WFMW: MOMS Club

I like to think of it as social networking old-school, but before there were blogs and Facebook and everything digital, there were moms getting together to share their experiences, encourage their children’s socialization, and good old-fashioned support. The good news? There still is.

Does your town have a MOMS Club? There are dozens of them in my area, at least one for each town. MOMS Club is the one place I know I can find someone who’s “been there, done that” with whatever challenge I’m having at the moment–tantrums, potty training, needing “me” time, etc. I can count on a playgroup being a safe place to show up in sweatpants, un-showered and harried, because it’s been a bad night. I can count on a fun Moms’ Night Out every month, a place to escape from the everyday stay-at-home-mom routine with other women who need it just as bad as I do.

To find out if there is an established MOMS Club in your area, look at their list of chapter links. If your town doesn’t have one, please consider starting your own Club. It can begin with just a few moms and grow into a meaningful, supportive community organization.

Where do you find support as a stay-at-home mom? What other groups do you recommend? Let’s hear from you in the Comments section below.

This is a great idea. I don’t belong to any, but wish I did. Maybe I will look into it. Thanks for sharing.

Las Vegas has Girlfriends Club. I don’t belong to any social networking clubs either.
But I agree it’s a great idea for making new friends.

I have also really enjoyed being a member of a MOPS group (Moms of Preschoolers). You can look online on the MOPS website (http://www.mops.org/) to find a MOPS group near you. They usually run through the school year only, but you could research where to join in the fall, and some groups have early registration in the spring for the fall session (to be able to arrange for child care).

I heartily second the MOPS recommendation!
