Wall Art on the Cheap

I have a lot of empty walls in my home. One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to improve that situation. Yes, I know that it is May. I work at a slow pace.

My son came home from school with this construction paper house, and I loved it. Plus, it happens to match my new color scheme in the living room (I had recovered the couch pillows with teal blue and chartreuse covers). So I picked up this simple frame at a yard sale for .50, spray painted it black, and backed the art with leftover scrapbook paper. I wasn’t sure about the green–I had originally thought I should use white for contrast–but I think it’s more interesting this way.

What do you think? Worth the .50? I just love how it turned out. Every time I walk into the living room, it brightens my day and makes me smile.

I have big plans for future wall art. I’ve been keeping a bookmark file of projects I see on blogs and websites that I would like to tackle. You know, in all my spare time this summer. Ha ha ha ha ha

It’s beautiful. I can’t wait ’til my DS makes more than a scribble. Although, I’m saving the scribbles too:)

Oh, this is great! I’ve been dragging some of my kids’ artwork around the world for about 13 years (we are a military family) and have been saying that I was going to frame it to hang on the walls – it’s all stacked up on a shelf in our craft closet right now. (My oldest son is going to be a senior next year, so you think you work at a slow pace!;)

when i moved into my first apartment in college i felt the need for wall art so i got some of my elementary school art back from my mom and framed it for my walls.

I think the green background is fabulous! And just think how special your son feels knowing his art works is framed for all to see!

I love it…I think that displaying your children’s artwork in a more permanent form like this is a great way to encourage creativity.

Very cute! I love framing my kids artwork. I have even gone a bit overboard on some and had them professionally framed in gaudy gold frames. My budget doesn’t allow for that right now, so we are sticking to digging through the basement for old frames. LOL! I always give my kids the colors that I want them use, so they will coordinate well in our house. How cheesey is that?
