For this week’s DIY Day, I’ve been jealous of the all the great Goodwill finds I see on other blogs, all gussied up and made into something pretty. Take a look at this ugly bear shelf that Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick found at Goodwill. Now it’s so cute!
I didn’t have quite the luck when I went to Goodwill, but I did find this odd-looking thing for $1.29 that I thought would make a good necklace holder. It was crooked, but I figured once it was tightened up it would improve (I would be wrong on that one…).
First, I took it apart and cut out a circle of scrapbook paper large enough to fold up and over the edges of the base. I used my new BFF Mod Podge to apply the paper to the base, and I slit the sides so they would fold over somewhat-neatly. I coated the whole thing again with Mod Podge and let it dry.
When I reassembled it, I thought it would be a little straighter, but it leans a little bit. Hmmph. But my necklaces are no longer tangled in a drawer, so that’s an improvement.
Total: $1.29 for the thingy, Mod Podge FREE with Swagbucks at Amazon, and the paper was from my old scrapbooking days.

Well that is very cute! And clever! I don't find very many good things at our GW, but I have found many at others. I just think we don't have a good one. And in Florida, garage sales are a bust too. Sigh.
I think it turned out great. I need a necklace solution too, but my kids would never leave something like this alone.
Hi Gina,
Thanks for the great post and for sharing your frugal project!
I've recently become more interested in finding frugal ways to decorate my home.
I hope to do some posts soon on some of my frugal decor.
Laura
my goodwill can be very hit or miss, but usually its a pretty good hit…but I know what you mean!
Our thrift store is hit/miss. Lately, more miss. I don't think people are donating as much these days. Check out some diys you can do with things you already own.
I keep running into you! I saw you on mommycast (I write the show notes for Paige and Gretch), and now I see all linked up at ASPTL. I love your blog!
Great necklace holder and for the price…who CARES if it leans! Go girl!
Love your blog posts about creating new things out of old. Especially the post about your black dining room sideboard. I just wrote a post about painting projects black.
