As I mentioned last week, I’ve been in a home improvement kick this summer, resulting in DIY projects like this dining room buffet and this adorable dresser. Right now I’m very focused on my blank walls and trying to fill them up with very low cost decor. Last week, I shared my Mod Podge Wall Art. Here are a few more of my recent projects:
When you enter my house, there’s a very small entryway but a big blank wall. I wanted a spot where I could do a little decorating without the little hands getting into everything as well as a way to welcome guests (this will be great for the holidays!). I went shopping in my basement and found this little white shelf (I’d had it for years but never used it). I found the giant letter L at Kohl’s for about $6 on sale, and then I made a framed artwork using a photo I took last summer and some leftover scrapbooking supplies. The glittered star and fish were made by the toddlers at camp.
I jazzed up a blank wall in my living room with these IKEA frames (just a few dollars) and some photos from my sister’s wedding backed by brown patterned scrapbook paper I already had. Sorry for the funny angle, but it was the only way to avoid all flash and no photo. I think it’s a little too geometric; maybe it needs some curves or splash like a vinyl wall cling? The blue looks great across from this earlier piece of cheap art.
In my guest room, I framed some more of my childrens‘ artwork with scrapbooking paper (boy, I have a lot I’m not using) and black frames I found in my own basement and at yard sales. Because the frames are all black, it doesn’t matter that they are different. The color draws them together.
I picked up this collage frame for .50 at a yard sale and filled it with coordinating scrapbook papers (seriously, if you need some, I have a ton). I love the designs and colors, though I may add a few black and white photos to break it up a bit, we’ll see.
I still have lots of blank space–including the worst offender, the 15-foot blank wall in my living room–that I just don’t know what to do with. Any ideas?

I saw in one of my magazines recently where they took a whole bunch of wooden embroidery hoops and painted them all the same color. Then they framed different pieces of fabric in them and grouped them on the wall. It looked very cute and an idea that I am going to try.
