According to a USDA Survey released today, more than 1 in 7 American households had trouble putting food on the table in 2008. The numbers involving children are heartbreaking: "16.7 million children were classified as not having enough food."Because of your interest a few months' back, I want to challenge you to take $10 out of your budget and see how far you can stretch it for charity. Show off your couponing skills and make a difference in your community! Here's how you can participate:
- Set aside $10 this month and work your couponing/deals/promo magic to get the most you can. Shop anywhere--grocery store, drugstore, Walmart, Target, etc.

I love this idea, and have blogged about with a link back to you. Thanks, can't wait to see how far I can stretch my $10!
Got it posted! I love this idea, and I can't wait to see how much everybody can get for $10.00. This is going to be fun. Thanks Gina!
What a great idea! I hadn't even read about this yet, but I already got started on mine. I bought boxes of Quaker chewy granola bars for $1 each at Vons today and set them aside for donation. I'll try to get some more great bargains to add to them.
Gina, I love this challenge. I bought groceries for the food bags at church over the weekend and here's what I got for just a bit over $10. The tomatoes and ziti are from Wegman's, the peanut butter will be from Walgreen's later tonight, and the rest came from Safeway. We bought a bit more than this, but this is our $10deal:
3 cans of Progresso soup (one veggie pasta and two tomato basil) at 75 cents each when combined with $1/4 and the purchase of 5 more cans for our home pantry (the tomato basil is THE BEST!) - $2.25
One box of Quaker Instant Oatmeal - $1.50
2 cans each of Green Giant corn and grean beans at 39 cents per can - $1.56
16 ounce box of Wegman's brand ziti - 69 cents
1 28 ounce can of diced tomatoes - 79 cents
1 24 ounce container of raisins for $2.50 when combined with a box for home and $1/2 - 2.50
1 jar of Skippy peanut butter - $1.50
Total is $10.79 (so I guess I could take off the can of tomatoes to make it $10 even...)
I love your challenge! I am in on this one! I posted about this on my blog and when I get my items in order I will post. Thanks for inspiring me to do more!
Great idea, Gina! My local mother's club is collecting for a local food bank at our holiday party. We had a killer cat deal at Acme last week, so here is what I got for 6.55.
4 skippy PB
2 wishbone salad dressing
4 viva paper towels
1 cottenelle wipes
24 green giant canned veggies
9 boxes plain cheerios
15 rolls scott paper towels
48 mentos gum (not on cat deal, just free after coupons)
Behold the power of just a few coupons and a whole lot of cat deals!
I will probably keep a few things for our family (like the viva towels and a few veggies), but the rest will get donated!
You can delete my linky, it is just a post about the challenge - I will relink with my results!
SORRY!
