Today’s guest post is by Aimee from The MommyTrade, where she’s learning the trade of being a mom, a wife and a homemaker…and saving money doing it. Aimee is married with 2 little girls under the age of 3 and lives in Southern California. Aimee says, “Using coupons is my #1 way of saving money and I love it!”
If you use coupons, then you undoubtedly have expired coupons. What do you do with them? Do you toss them, or do you save them? I’ve recently started saving mine–because they can be sent overseas to military bases so the families there can use them! How great is that? Military families can use expired coupons up to 6 months after expiration date at overseas commissaries.

This past year I began a partnership with Debbie (from Expired Coupon Queen) to provide as many coupons to overseas military families as possible. We have partnered with the Overseas Coupon Project and adopted 3 military bases (Germany, Japan & Belguim) where we send our coupons. Since the start of this project through October 2009, Debbie has mailed over $35,000 in coupons. In November alone, 10.4 pounds of coupons were sent to Germany–which is roughly around $11,000! That is a lot of money that these families can save every month when buying necessities (and if you or someone you know has been in the military you’ll know that they need to save money just like we do!).

So how can you help?

1.      You can send us your expired coupons! There are some do’s and don’t’s that go along with this so please visit Debbie’s site for all of that information. Through that link you’ll find an email address for Debbie (our Expired Coupon Queen) and she’ll get you the mailing address you’ll need to send your coupons.
2.      Help cover the cost of shipping. Debbie really is the saint here. She pays for the shipping to these bases out of her own pocket each month. This costs anywhere from $5-$40. She doesn’t mind paying the cost but as we get more and more coupon clippers like yourself contributing the more this will cost. So if you’d like to send a dollar or two with your coupons that would be great but please don’t feel obligated to do so!

Visit The Mommy Trade for all the details on donating your expired coupons. We would LOVE to have you join us!
*Update: As of June 2010, there’s an updated address where Debbie is collecting the coupons.
