Often when I tell people that my target price for cereal is .50 per box, they can’t believe it. This is name-brand cereal, by the way, and I only use the healthy stuff (Cheerios, etc.) for breakfast. The few sugary-cereals I buy are for afternoon snacks, since we make our own “trail mix” at our house. My son is allergic to peanuts so my kids like to mix the fruity cereals with pretzels, raisins, Chex and whatever else I’ve found on sale.
This week’s promo at Giant is a perfect example of how to combine a store promo with coupons to get to that target price of .50 box for cereal. Through Thursday, April 29th, when you buy 6 boxes of General Mills cereal, you’ll automatically get $10 off at the register, plus you’ll get two Catalina coupons for FREE Milk. Those Cat coupons say “up to $4.50″ and actually take $4.50 off your order no matter what your milk costs. You can use them on regular milk, soy, organic, whatever your house drinks, and you’ll have two weeks to use them.
While the cereals themselves are not on sale, you’ll do just fine, because you’re basically getting $19 off of the six boxes of cereal and two gallons of milk. *Updated: Here are the prices I saw at the store, though most Giants vary their prices from region to region:
- Cheerios 14oz box $3.69 (the 8.9oz box was $3.39 but it’s tiny!)
