A while ago I started seeing the “Free Canvas” deal on the blogs I read…and while I was intrigued, I held off for a bit. Then, some really cool examples went up:
Shelly from How Does She? made three canvases of her kids’ faces for an stunning display in her powder room. I love the black and white, and I love the addition of the initial. My first thought was, “I never have great photos like that of my kids.”
Then Chris at Just a Girl took a photo of seats at the baseball stadium, made a FREE 8×10 canvas, and added it to a montage in her son’s baseball-themed room. It has great sentimental value and adds depth and charm. Brilliant idea to use a graphic photo, and what a great example of meaningful art on a budget! And now I see it doesn’t have to be people–whoo hoo! Every once in a while I take a great photo, like this one of our Lego Duplo blocks…
Wouldn’t that make a great canvas? Now my gears are turning! But in the meantime, we had photos taken of the kids…and I finally got a “decent” picture. And by decent I mean wow-they’re-all-looking-at-the-camera-at-the-same-time (first time since 2007!). So I ordered my FREE 8×10 canvas (details below), and now I understand why so many bloggers are suggesting paying a little more for the larger size. The 8×10 is tiny!
When I opened the box, I couldn’t believe how small the 8×10 looked. But I guess that makes sense; in my home, any 8×10 photos are matted and framed, so they just seem larger. I’m going to order the Lego one next, so I’ll go ahead and upgrade to the larger 11×14 size this time around. I love the texture the canvas adds to the photo, and I really liked the tightly-wrapped sides around the wood frame. Keep that in mind when you choose your photo, you don’t want faces and heads wrapping around the edges. The canvas comes with a bracket for hanging, but I love that I can just lean it on a shelf, and move it around to wherever it looks good. Right now it’s in my entryway with a little fall decor:
Are your gears turning now, too? Here’s how the Canvas People deal works:
You get a $55 credit which makes the 8×10 size FREE, but you pay $14.95 for shipping. You can also apply that $55 to a larger size; for example, order the 11×14 and pay $9.99 for the canvas and $17.95 for shipping (for a total of $27.94). I would love to hear from you if you’ve ordered from Canvas People and what photos you’ve used!
