Just a Safeway question – do you like shopping there? Do you have a good experience? I find every time I go it’s not worth it, the staff isn’t friendly and their coupon policy is weird – I was told I could only double one coupon of any kind and the rest would be entered at face value?

Good for you on your financial goals – I’m sure you’ll do great in 2012!

Eh, depends on the week, I guess. I’ve had to try several different stores to find one that wasn’t outright awful. I don’t have any problems with multiple coupons doubling, depending on the casher. There’s one young lady who won’t take more than one IP coupon; that’s frustrating, since the manager will scan them. Right now I’m shopping at Trader Joe’s for milk and eggs, then Giant for whatever’s cheap, and only going to Safeway when there’s very low prices on certain items.

I went to safeway today to use the in ad coupon for fiber one and total cereale …what an awful ordeal it was at checkout ….first my printed coupons would not scan …( black ink was low ) ..2nd the cashier had no idea if the coupons were to doubled and i was not sure ..a manager came over and doubled them ..and I used 2 coupons on a buy one get one free ..not sure if i was suppose to anyhow ..i will never go back there ever ..it was so stressful ..the cashier said I could not use the paper coupons with the ad coupon also ..i looked at their coupon policy and am very un clear as to what i did wrong … the cashier was soo frazzled that he checked me out at a very very low price below what i even expected to pay … I have never ever had any problems with my printed coupons at any store ever .. .. can some one explain how safeway works ???????

You can use a Safeway coupon + manufacture coupon on one item. This is how I get most of my “good deals” at Safeway. However, on B1G1 sales, Safeway registers do not allow a coupon to be used for the “free” item. Keep with it, I find good buys at Safeway just about every week.

Hi! Safeway is DEF not a coupon friendly store. I vowed a few yrs back never to go there again and I really try and stay away but its really hard too when its really good deals there on the cereal. I went today to use my fiber one q’s and a few others and of course the fiber one q’s wouldn’t scan at all and they were not printables. Anyhow they were actually very nice and accomadating as this was a different one then the one that I had so many bad experiences at. I would suggest taking the ad with the coupon in it and taking it to giant and using it as a competitor coupon. Giant is very coupon friendly and they will accept the cereal deals with the ad coupon. I hope this helps!

That’s weird, my Safeway is great with their coupons and when you get that dreaded beep the cashiers just put it in manually. Sometimes they don’t double but if you look further down on your receipt the cashier has forced it to double but it just shows up in a different spot.

Giant, it depends on the cashier.

The cereal deals though are even better than you posted. There is a 1.10 coupon on all types of cheerios including the new peanut butter multi grain, pair that up with the Safeway 1.99 coupon, and a .75 mulit grain peanut butter coupon that will double. Using those coupons and two .75 coupons for frosted toast crunch (also on that Safeway coupon), I paid .86 cents for 4 boxes of cereal.

Thanks for your input on safeway …my coupons were printables and they would not scan and the cashier did not know how to double them ..or even if they should double ..i coupon every day and I was extremely embarased and it was awful he eventuallu just checked me out ..i think to get rid of me …. i got 8 boxes of cereale and 4 bags of tyson grilled chicken .. and only paid a dime ..clearly that was not the right amount i estimated it to be around 7 bucks ..so yes i got a deal but sure felt awful about it and at that point just wanted to LEAVE the store …never again .. will i go there ..i get so many deal else where and dont feel like i am stealing ( which i know i am not )..

  7. Gina says:

I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble with coupons at Safeway! Here in NoVA, it seems to depend on the “environment” of the store/manager/cashiers. We have some stores that are super friendly and people seem happy to work there, and others where it’s the opposite. Obviously, I get more coupon love at the happier stores.
