I’m so excited to share a new book with you today! I’ve told you about the blog Baby Cheapskate many times over the past few years. It’s where I recommend you go to read diaper reviews and where to learn which toys last before you buy for the holidays. Angie also posts a summary of the best diaper and wipes prices every single week so you can save. Angie’s book, The Baby Cheapskate Guide to Bargains: How to Save on Blankets, Bottles and Everything Baby was released today!
I received a copy for review, and I was so pleased to see the same common sense and reader contributions shared within that you find at the Baby Cheapskate blog. There are lots of real-life and current examples of what real parents use, need, and prefer. She starts with the basics–that you don’t have to buy everything the industry tells you to–and works from there. With the average American family spending more than $23,000 for the first two years of a child’s life, you can buck that trend and find what you need (and want) for a lot less!
Angie includes many of the same principles of shopping smart that you use for non-baby purchases, so it’s a great teaching tool if you’re wanting to learn how to shop for used items, use coupons, and more. It’s honestly good for everyone, not just those with a baby. For those who are pregnant or have a new little one, though, it’s perfect for learning how to get deals both online and in-stores. Consider buying a copy for the next baby shower you’re attending; the new mom will thank you!

I love to shop at consignment sales for baby stuff!
Buy used items (as long as they’re not a safety risk like carseat/crib). Used clothes, swing, bouncer, bumbo, etc can save you a lot of money!)

I do a lot of coupons but I have also taken perfectly good items out of people’s garbage (like a child’s art desk) cleaned it up and let my daughter’s use it!
definitely hand me downs from family & friends! everyone is so generous with baby items & it helps them clean out their house from all the clutter!
I buy formula in bulk because I have to usually buy two cans a week. One for my house and one for my sitter. I’m spending $50 for two cans (he has to have special formula for allergies) when I could be getting 6 cans for just $135. That’s $15 savings every 3 weeks and $15 is $15!
I got to consignment sales and I do a lot of research on everything else.
I’ve subscribed to MoneywiseMoms.
I love her website. I use the formula coupon trading group and save lots!!!
I subscribe to your emails too.
I’d use coupons and watch baby blogs for deals.
Love BabyCheapskate! I’ve saved a ton of money on baby things (mostly diapers and wipes) through Amazon Mom and the Amazon coupons that used to come in Parenting magazine. Using cloth diapers didn’t make any financial sense because I was getting name brand diapers for pennies from Amazon.
Hand-me-downs are the best! I live in a neighborhood with small apartments so there are a lot of people living here with just one kid, and most of them want to unload space-hogging gear as soon as they’re done with it. So there’s a lot of passing around and swapping.

Thirft stores and hand me downs are my best friend! We are expecting and our other two are teenagers…needless to say we are starting all over again!
I would coupon for diapers, last babies I just used cheap ones.

For the past three years, i have been finding clothing on the street in the middle east for my daughter, and everything my newborn son owns is a hand me down =)
