Safeway Just4U comes to DC and Baltimore

If you’re a Safeway shopper, you may have seen the Safeway Just4U banners up in your store. They’re launching this new savings program all over the country, and now it’s here in the Washington DC and Baltimore areas. I attended the DC/Baltimore launch at Safeway Corporate in June, and learned all about it, but I’ve waited a while to tell you. Why? Honestly, it’s because the first few times I went to my local Safeway, there were glitches. I ended up at customer service trying to get it sorted. Now, though, the program seems to be running smoothly. I’ve shopped at three different Safeways in my area over the past few weeks and had a great experience with it. Here’s what I love about Just for U:

Personalized Deals
This is my favorite part of the program! Safeway looks at what you’ve bought in the past and gives you special sale prices based on your purchase history. I’ve gotten great deals on Lucerne Cheese, produce liked bagged salad, and other items. I click “Add” to load them to my Safeway Club Card, and then the savings comes off at checkout. When you first sign up with Just 4 U, you’ll get a FREE dozen Lucerne Eggs as one of your first Personalized Deals. The free eggs are an example of a one-time deal; some are “unlimited,” meaning you can get that low price over and over until the expiration date (listed on the website).

Coupon Center
The Coupon Center is your one stop for digital coupons to load to your Club Card. Safeway has collected all available manufacturer’s coupons from digital coupon sites and created their own for Safeway product lines like Lucerne, Safeway Select, and O Organics. You’ll also find the in-ad printed coupons here. Just click “Add” to load them to your Club Card instead of cutting them out (and forgetting them, as we all do). You’ll automatically get that sale price. You can also stack a manufacturer’s coupon with one of the Safeway store coupons–either a Personalized Deal or a price point coupon found in the Coupon Center. For example, you can use the Del Monte coupon above along with a paper manufacturer’s cents-off coupon.

Your Club Specials
The offers you see listed in Your Club Specials are pulled from the weekly ad and the other thousands of sale prices that week, but they’re filtered by your purchase history so you’re not wasting time scrolling through offers that don’t appeal to you. It’s an easy way for me to quickly “Add” the printed ad deals to my Savings List to ensure I get those prices.

Ready to Save?
The first thing you’ll need to do is sign up at Just for U. You’ll need your current Club Card number, and be sure you’re using the one that matches your phone number and address. You may want to check with the Safeway Call Center at 1-877-SAFEWAY, instead of using a card or phone number from several moves ago. You want your current purchases to help deliver relevant savings in the coming weeks. As you’re Adding coupons and deals to your Club Card, add them to your Savings List, which is a helpful shopping list sorted by category to help you shop efficiently at the store.

My Experience
I’ve been using my iPhone to load coupons to my Club Card, even right there in the store, and I get the savings at checkout. I really like seeing deals for meat, dairy and produce since those are traditionally not covered by manufacturer’s coupons. Right now, I have deals like $3 off $15 in the produce department, milk for $2.49/gallon (unlimited, so I can buy as many as I want at that price until it expires), and a FREE Breakfast Sandwich. Since we use a lot of the Safeway brand items, I love getting coupons and lower prices for things like frozen vegetables, cheese, and more.

If you’re not a regular couponer, I think you’ll really appreciate Just for U’s extra savings just by spending a few minutes with the app or website. If you are already a grocery savings superstar, this is another tool for your arsenal. Give it a try!

Have you tried Safeway Just for U?

Disclosure: I received compensation and products for attending the Just4U Launch. Safeway is providing the prize for the Twitter contest.

Comments

  1. I have loaded their coupons onto my card from the website for a year now and they will show up as Just4U or ecoupon discounts on my receipt. I find them really easy to use and I like that the ecoupons will stack sometimes, though I haven’t quite figured out why they sometimes do and sometimes don’t). It seems like this new promotion of Just4U in our area is promoting something that’s been around for a while. I don’t really see the difference or what’s new.

  2. Thanks for posting this. I signed up, but never had a chance to load the coupons from the website. Your post inspired me. Next step… shopping… and using the app on my i-phone. Thanks again!

  3. I used it today and I am not sure if I like it or not. I had some e-coupons loaded on my card but with the just for you price it didnt take those e-coupons. I also had a few paper coupons but although they seemed to go through during checkout, I am having a hard time telling if the discount was taken off my purchase. My reciept doesn’t seem to show those like it use to- ?-
I am wondering what other people have noticed?
