I hope you and your family are together today, enjoying each others’ company and making memories together. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
This has been a tough holiday for me for the past few years. My dad passed away on Thanksgiving morning in 2006, after living with us for 14 months. I’m so thankful we had that time together, and although they are blurry memories (that was the period of bedrest + 2yo toddler + infant twins), they are good ones. I noticed a shift in myself this year; it no longer feels like “yesterday” that he died, and I’m not as quick to think, “Dad would love that.” I do think of him often, especially since my new nephews are reaching the age where my son was during that year with my dad.
This Thanksgiving will be a joyful one. It’s my nephew’s 2nd birthday, and we’re gathering to celebrate. There’s a new cousin this year, plus another on the way. I’m thankful my sisters live in the same city now, so we can see them more often and make new memories together. I’m thankful we can afford to travel this weekend and enjoy a special meal together. I’m thankful that my kids are healthy, and I’m really hoping to be thankful for a no-carsick trip (hasn’t happened yet, but maybe this time?).
I’m also thankful for YOU. Thank you for reading MoneywiseMoms and coming along on a journey of family frugality. I hope you’re able to enjoy the benefits of your hard work during the year throughout the holiday season.

I’m glad you’re doing better. My Dad passed away in January of 2010 and my mom’s Alzheimer’s is really difficult now, so I know what you mean. I had a joyful holiday though this time, with all 3 of my kids here.

I understand the pain of losing a parent. My father passed away in January of 2000 which was very hard since I was very young. It aged me about 30 years. I had to grow up very fast. I can still remember the day I had to do the wake by myself because my Mother was so sick. I know he is watching over us and being my angel up above.
Today, I have so much to thankful for with my family, husband and 3 kids.
Thank you for all that you do on your blog and life! Your friend! – Holly
