Dairy & Egg Free Cupcakes:

As the mom of a child with a food allergy, we’ve had our share of disappointments like the classroom party where my son is the only one who can’t have the treat.

If you have friends or family with a severe allergy, it can be hard to know how to celebrate with them. This dairy free, egg free, cupcakes recipe is a great one to keep on hand for special events.

It makes the allergic child feel so special to be included in the festivities, and there’s no harm in the other kids eating non-dairy, non-egg cupcakes.

It’s great for adults, too, if you are hosting a baby shower or need a few cupcakes set aside at a wedding or other event. Add this moist cupcake recipe to your repertoire!

What do I need to make allergy cupcakes?

Be sure and use paper cupcake liners if you’re making cupcakes, since this batter is stickier than typical cake batter.

If you’re using cake pans, I suggest spraying them and coating with flour to avoid sticking.

The original recipe came from the cookbook Dairy-Free, Egg-Free Kid-Pleasing Recipes & Tips, which is no longer in print.

What are some more fun ways to decorate these egg and dairy free cupcakes?

As for decorating, be very careful to use allergy-safe frosting or decorations. There are some prepared frostings that many dairy-free kids can eat, or you can search online for a homemade soy version.

Colored sugar is a safer bet than sprinkles, or you could sprinkle a little confectioner’s sugar on top. Wilton does make a dairy-free topping.

If you’re a dairy free egg free baker, we’d love to hear other suggestions for decorations in the comments below!

What flavor are these egg free cupcakes?

This allergy cupcakes recipe makes a delicious vanilla cake. If you prefer chocolate, head over to Make it Dairy Free for their Dairy Free Chocolate Cupcakes recipe!

What is the consistency of these allergy cupcakes?

These allergy cupcakes are actually quite moist! Sometimes when you bake without eggs it can be a dry and disappointing batter but these stay rather moist and satisfying.

Can I make an allergy free round cake with this same batter?

You can! I always keep a close eye on the allergy free cake while it is baking to make sure it doesn’t get overdone!

When it starts to brown a little bit on top start checking with a toothpick in the middle of the cake. When it comes out clean you can pull the cake out to cool.

Is this a vegan cake recipe?

Yes! Not only is it a vegan cake or vegan cupcake recipe it’s also great for everyone else to eat as well. It’s one of those rare recipes where everyone in the room can enjoy it and you won’t have to walk around explaining that it’s modified in some way.

No need for the disclaimer: it’s vegan. Everyone will be devouring this recipe because it’s a delicious moist cupcake recipe!

I’m only dairy free, can I include eggs in my recipe?

This recipe works the way it was built and set up. I don’t think I’d go crazy trying to get it just right with just one allergen or the other removed. If you are looking for just a dairy free cake recipe you can try this one, dairy free classic yellow cake.

The same is true for just substituting the eggs and including dairy. I think it would probably make the recipe a little weird. Here’s an egg free vanilla cake recipe to try if you would prefer to include dairy in your cake!

Thank you so much for posting this!! I just made this for my daughter's 3rd birthday and it was so moist that it really didn't need any frosting (but my daughter wanted a pink cake so I did decorate it). People do not believe me when I tell them that it is egg and milk free-I will definitely keep this in my recipe box for future use.
