What to serve with this Crockpot beef stew:

We love some garlic bread or biscuits on the side, but you can also add some peeled potatoes to the stew for your carbs.

This recipe is easily made gluten-free just by substituting GF flour to coat the meat (I’ve done it before it works fine). Double-check your beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to make sure they’re gluten-free, too.

What kind of meat to use for beef stew recipes:

If you’re a beginner cook, just look for beef marked “Beef for Stew” in the meat department at your grocery store. The chunks are quite large, which is why I cut them smaller for the kids before cooking.

The best meat for stew is usually the most inexpensive. It’s the shoulder meat that is usually called ‘chuck’ meat. It’s got more connective tissue and it works best for a recipe where the meat is going to simmer for a long time.

This low slow cooking process helps the meat breakdown and become tender instead of overcooking it and making it tough! It’s the same meat I use for Slow Cooker Stew Meat Chili.
