From Memorial Day through Labor Day, the Blue Star Museums program offers free museum admission for military families. This offer is good at over 2,000 museums nationwide! Through a collaboration between the National Endowment of the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense, this fabulous program is celebrating its 8th summer this year.
Our nation’s active-duty military personnel, including National Guard and Reserve, are eligible. Each can bring up to 5 family members with them. The active duty member does not need to be present for families to use the program. There is no limit to the number of museums or visits, so take advantage of this wonderful program.
Participating sites include children’s museums, fine art museums, history and science museums, and nature centers. Find a museum near you and plan a visit now! Some of our favorite places are on the list, like Fonthill Castle in Pennsylvania and the Science Museum of Richmond.
This year, you can download a Museum Parent Toolkit to help you with your museum visit(s). It includes planning help along with activities to make memories with your family.
From the FAQ:
Blue Star Museums is an effort to improve the quality of life for active duty military families, especially focusing on the approximately two million children who have had at least one parent deployed since 2001. Blue Star Museums was created to show support for military families who have faced multiple deployments and the challenges of reintegration. This program offers these families a chance to visit museums this summer when many will have limited resources and limited time to be together.
